We all have been nowadays hearing about the term “Smart City’’ quite often in media. We all know that the proposed Delhi Master Plan 2021 will transform Delhi-NCR into a Smart City but what exactly is a Smart City?

Let us take note of the fact that a Smart City is one that utilizes Information and communication technologies with the aim to increase the quality of life of their inhabitants while providing sustainable development. All contemporary needs of a citizen are somehow linked to ICT as it plays a pivotal role in our lives today. The government has incorporated ICT for making modern cities under the Delhi Master Plan and the citizens can enjoy an ICT-based infrastructure in the L-Zone of Dwarka Smart City.

 

The ultra urbanization project will be fostered including five ICT essentials:-

 

• Placement of broadband networks:Building a broadband infrastructure is the foremost step while building an ICT equipped city. A rich environment of broadband networks that combines cable, optical fiber and wireless networks will be established. Having such a setup will ensure maximum connectivity and bandwidth with all the residents located in the city.

 

• Use of Smart Devices and Agents: The upcoming residential projects in the zone will be embedded with smart devices, sensors and actuators, alerts and information processors. It will pave the way in developing an intelligent surrounding empowering city’s various departments.

 

• Smart Urban Spaces: This refers to those areas of the city that will ensure ICT to deliver more efficiently and provide sustainable services within that specific area. Common services available in this specific area will include Wi-Fi hotspots and information kiosks. Also city-wide effort to introduce interoperable e- services based on latest mobile technologies and ubiquitous mobile computing techniques. 

 

• Developing web based applications and e-services: The most advanced mobile technologies are going to be used in Dwarka residential projects that will target not only the improvement of lives but also the productivity and efficiency of local administrations especially in maintaining good relationship with the inhabitants.

 

• Opening up government data:The effective use f government data will precipitate the smart evolution of a township going to be developed on a foundation of advanced communication and information mechanization. 

 

In brief, the Smart City project in Delhi’s L-Zone Dwarka has provided software technology bricks and design frameworks that can be used for designing and adopting mobile context based local and interoperable services across the cities.
